RE: Installing rails for 5th wheel hitch

My stealer wanted over $500 to put my Superglide in, so I did that myself. Not a big deal - took maybe four hours. (Measuring twice and being super-careful!) same story here, but i wasn't as quick as kdj....just couldn't see spending the $500 for what amounts to a basic drill & bolt job. If you know your way around basic tools, you should be able to do it easily. One other thing you may try & that's to see if you can locate/download the install instructions for your hitch. They will show you what you'll need to do & you can decide from there if you want to mess with it. Good luck

RE: gooseneck + adapter + Bighorn 3670RL (12K dry)

mornin rick, I'll tell you what i've read on here & you can probably get more info thru a search. One of the big considerations to using a goose neck adapter seems to be the stress it puts on the 5er pin box. Some say that using could/would void any frame warranty you have. It's suggested to contact the manufacturer to get their thoughts on using a goose neck setup. As far as a hitch goes, there are air-ride type hitches out there. Mor-Ryde (sp?) is one of them & I would think something like this would cushion the trailer ride considerably but, I have no personal experience with this type of setup. I'm sure others will chime in that can help you better (once the coffee gets done....:B)

RE: shower leak?

wow, this is wierd. We just got back from a camping trip & we had the same thing happen to us. Took the trailer to the dealer last Monday so not sure what the cause is yet. Like you we checked all the accessible areas we could & didn't see anything obvious. Ours is leaking at the underside of the trailer where the side of the trailer is at. The leak isn't inside the covered portion of the bottom. I can see where it's coming from if i look inside the front compartment & to the rear of my battery box. Course, that doesn't tell me where it's coming from, but may help the RV techs figure it out. When i hear what they found i'll post in case it can help you/others. Good luck with yours

RE: Open Range 280 rls

i don't own an open range, but maybe your truck could handle a 337. Do you know how much your truck weighs when it's set up to go camping?? See how that compares with your GVWR and GAWR (rear).

RE: Toilet flange broke off the tube going into the tank--HELP

I may be wrong, but I think you are going to find that you are going to have to cut the vent pipe at some point in order to drop the tank. And then have to glue a coupler on to rejoin them when reinstalling the tank. my thought too. This can't be the first time this has happened to someone so there should be couplers that fit the vent pipe somewhere. I know Home Depot/Lowes sells couplers that are removable for various sizes of pipe. They have a rubber insert sleeve with a metal outer jacket that has 2 bolts used to tighted the jacket down onto the rubber & compressing it. This may be useful in case you have to drop the tank again. At least you wont have to keep cutting the vent line. Good luck to you

RE: connection issue

you could try restoring to a previous, recent Restore Point to see if that would make any difference.

RE: connection issue

give yours to the wife :B sorry, couldn't resist. Are you getting any error messages. If so, what do they say. Do you have something plugged into your computer that you could try on the wife's?? I suppose you've tried rebooting (cold boot)...

RE: I'm confused!

just a side note on the discussions on using air bags, helper springs, etc. While these will help the truck ride level, they do nothing to change the load carrying or towing capacity of your truck.

RE: Electrical Gurus--Old-Style 30A (no ground)?

personally, i'd do whatever is safest. To me, any convenience would not be worth bypassing a safety feature on electrical an distribution system. Someone could get hurt or killed or property could be damaged. Remember Murphy's Law....have a safe holiday.

RE: What is too high? 5er over bed rails

Biggest thing I would think is to make sure the trailer sits level with the truck AND you have at least 6" bed rail clearance. If you can get these 2 things set and the trailer tows OK, then you'll be good to go....just know what your overall height on the 5er is & keep a close watch on low clearances...

RE: Decision time. Any Advice?

I really like my Dodge. No Mega Cabs to look at? agree. If room is such a big concern, see what you can find in a Dodge MegaCab (crew cab). Seems like there should be better deals out there, but with the price of fuel coming down, the dealers may be holding on their prices now.

RE: Palmetto State Park, Texas

We haven't actually camped there, but did tour it in a car. There's a long, narrow road with trees close by the roadsides that leads to the park. The park is small without much maneuvering room. We have a 33' 5er & I wouldn't try it, but there are others that have probably done it....

RE: auto crossover propane regulators,

ok, here's my vast knowledge that comes from RVing for the last year. We have a 2-tank setup with the auto regulator & a selector on the regulator. When the tank that's selected goes empty, the regulator shows red, but i don't lose propane flow cause the regulator automatically draws from the other tank. I then select the other tank that's now being used & the regulator shows green again. I can then isolate and remove the empty tank to get it filled. The only time i've seen red and green together is when i isolate both tanks to the regulator which i do when the RV is sitting at the house. Hopefully, someone with more 'vast' experience than me will chime in & offer some good info. :B

More GPS questions...

I've got a couple of other threads going on GPS stuff, but rather than add my new questions to them where they might get buried, i'm starting this one....patience please :B ques. #1: some GPS' allow you to store routes. Is this a handy feature to have?? Guess if you couldn't store a route you'd have to manually enter it each time you wanted to use it??? (maybe i answered my own question :@ ques. #2: do GPS' allow you to manually enter a route you want to take?? Being an RV'er, i usually plan a specific route based on avoiding high congestion areas, low clearances, etc. If the GPS just plots the shortest route & you're stuck with it (like what Mapquest does), then it wouldn't be something i could use....

RE: gps for motorcycle & truck?

I think a RAM mount is the only way to go, very sturdy. And yes, storing routes could come in handy. I haven't seen if your MC is a street bike or dirt, if dirt, the vibration may be too much for the Nuvi. My Garmin Rino and 60csx both shut off because of the vibration causes the batteries to lose contact. my MC is a harley dresser

RE: gps for motorcycle & truck?

great info & i appreciate it. From what i read it looks like i could mount a Garmin nuvi to my bike and my truck & if so, that would do the trick for me. I looked at the Garmin MC models (Zumo's), but they're too pricey for me. For you guys that mount your GPS's to you MC, what mount do you use?? Also, i see some of the GPS's have the capability to store routes. Is this a handy feature to have or not??
